Family stories, from generation to generation

The most beautiful book of your family has not been written yet.

You won't write it — your loved ones will tell it. Spominka talks with them about life, patiently and in a warm, familiar way, and turns their stories into a book that lasts forever.

Chapter I — Stories that are slipping away

First the details go. The name of a street, the smell of a kitchen, a song from a wedding. Then the stories go — about the war and a first job, about who they loved and what frightened them, about how life used to be. Families tell us the same sentence, more often than any other:

“If only we had asked, while there was still time.”

Spominka exists so that asking is no longer a task you keep putting off. She asks the questions — unhurried, conversation by conversation. And within a few weeks, you have the book.

Chapter II — How Spominka works

How does a grandma’s story (“babičina zgodba”) come to life?

Spominka was originally called Babičina zgodba (“Grandma’s Story”): we built it so that our grandmother could tell hers. Today it is for every family — for grandmothers and grandfathers, mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles. A story comes to life in three steps.

  1. 1

    The conversation begins

No passwords, nothing to learn. You open Spominka in a browser on a phone, tablet or computer; iOS and Android apps are coming soon. She speaks slowly and clearly, in English. And her name? You choose that yourself. A phone call will also come soon as an additional option.

  2. 2

    They just tell their story

Spominka listens, asks follow-up questions, and remembers every story. Even after a week's pause, she picks up exactly where you left off. She never interrupts, she's never in a hurry — and any subject someone doesn't want to open stays closed.

  3. 3

    Stories become a book

The conversations become a book in the style you choose: a word-for-word record, a lightly edited first-person narrative, or a literary narrative in the third person. You add your photos, and you can review, edit or remove every passage. Nothing goes into the book without the family's blessing.

Chapter III — The book that lasts

Not a recording in the cloud. A book, ready to print.

The kind their grandchildren will one day read to their own children. Printing will be available soon — until then you receive the book as a file, ready to print.

Frequently asked questions

What do they need for a conversation?

A phone, tablet or computer with a browser and a microphone. You set everything up; they just talk. iOS and Android apps are coming soon, and a call to an ordinary phone will be an additional option once it is ready — it is not available yet.

What if they're not comfortable talking to artificial intelligence?

Spominka introduces herself honestly and speaks slowly, clearly and patiently. Most narrators forget about the technology after the first conversation — what remains is just the conversation. If it doesn't suit someone, you can stop at any time.

How many conversations does a book take?

Usually six to twelve, each around half an hour. The stories build up on their own — no rushing, and no homework.

Who sees the recordings and transcripts?

Only your family. Recordings are stored securely and used solely for your book. Topics you mark as private stay out of the conversation and out of the book. At your request, we permanently delete everything.

Can we review the book before we print it?

Absolutely. You can review, edit or remove every passage. Printing will be available soon; until then you receive the book as a file ready to print, and nothing goes into the book without your blessing.

What style is the book written in?

You can choose one of three styles. Word-for-word record: only their words, without exception. Edited narrative: their words in the first person, lightly edited for readability, with nothing added. Literary narrative: a third-person narrative based on their words, clearly marked as written by AI. You can switch the style at any time and put the book together again.

Is Spominka the same as Babičina zgodba?

Yes. Babičina zgodba (“Grandma’s Story”) was the original name — it began with our own grandmother, who wanted to tell her story. The product is the same; it is now called Spominka and it is for the stories of all your loved ones.

What does it cost, and when is it available?

The web app is available now. You start with three hours of free conversation, then choose a conversation package (see the prices above) — monthly or yearly, and you can cancel at any time. The phone call and book printing will come later. We are still building Spominka, so tell us what you would like.
